Whitewater Rafting: New River and Gauley River

Pillow Rock is a class V rapid on the Gauley River. The whitewater rafting guides are highly trained and skilled at resolving minor detours during the trip. You will enjoy a river side lunch on your rafting trip. Make sure you have plenty of training and experience before you take a trip in a small raft by yourself! All forward! Everyone must paddle hard to get the raft through the intense rapids. Whitewater rafting on the Gauley River is wild! The Gauley River is recommended for paddlers with previous experience. The Gauley River has some of the most challenging whitewater anywhere! The Gauley River is usually split into two sections: The Upper, class IV and V whitewater; and the Lower, class III to IV whitewater. Whitewater rafting offers more excitement than any theme park! Our cabins are near the New River and the Gauley River in West Virginia. The Upper section of the New River is fun for all ages from 6 to 96! The New River does contain some knarly whitewater that rivals the Gauley River! With its range of difficulty from I to V, the New River can accommodate any whitewater rafting vacation. Pillow rock is a class V rapid on the Upper Gauley River and is a short hike from your cabin at Carnifex Ferry Cottages. Just a short hike from your WV cabin gets you a front row seat to Gauley River whitewater action!

These boys are having a blast at Summersville Lake just 2 minutes from our cabins. The kids will love tubing on Summersville Lake! Rock climbing is a very popular sport at Summersville Lake. Bring your boat or rent one. Either way you'll enjoy a beautiful day on a clean, clear, deep lake. Summersville Lake is big enough to enjoy wake boarding, water skiing, or tubing. Summersville Lake is the State's largest lake. There are dramatic rock cliffs on Summersville Lake. Recreational opportunities abound on Summersville Lake with everything from boating or fishing to SCUBA diving to rock climbing. Long Point is one of Summersville Lake's most photographed features. Summersville Lake is a recreational paradise.

The newly completed playground at Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park is located next door to our West Virginia Cabins. Yes! I'm winning! Your kids will love the new playground found next to our West Virginia cabins at Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park. The new playground is enormous! The kids will find plenty to do at the new playground. The small rock climbing wall at the new playground will get the kids ready for a later trip of rock climbing at Summersville Lake or the New River Gorge. What playground would be complete without swings!
