How to get to the greatest cabins in West Virginia

From Charleston, WV to Driftwood Lodge

Take I-77 south to the MOSSY/OAK HILL EXIT (exit 60). This should take around 30 minutes.

From MOSSY/OAK HILL EXIT follow STATE RT. 612 to US RT. 19 North (8 miles).

Take US RT. 19 NORTH about 30 minutes until you come to a traffic light. This will be the second traffic light you will have seen since you left the town of Fayetteville and is located at the intersection of US RT. 19 and Hwy. 41.

Turn LEFT off US RT. 19 at this light.

As soon as you turn LEFT the road will fork. BEAR RIGHT AT THE FORK. You will immediately see a red gate that says Lakeview Hts./Private Rd. Go down the hill on the paved road past this gate approximately 6/10 of a mile. Go slow! The road ends abruptly!

At the end of the paved road, TURN RIGHT on to a gravel road. Follow this gravel road about 2/10 of a mile until the road forks again. BEAR LEFT.

You will make a HARD LEFT at this point and you will be going back up the hill approximately 2/10 of a mile more. The cottage is the SECOND cottage you will encounter on your LEFT. It has a very large gate that says DRIFTWOOD LODGE on top of it.

Alternate Route From Charleston, WV to Driftwood Lodge

Take I-79 north to EXIT 57 (Rt. 19 South) marked Summersville/Beckly. This should take around 45 minutes.

Take US RT. 19 SOUTH about 35 miles until you come to the town of SUMMERSVILLE. WATCH YOUR SPEED. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Stay on US RT. 19 continuing through the town of SUMMERSVILLE for about 6 miles.

You will come to a traffic light, the first since passing through SUMMERSVILLE. Turn RIGHT at this light.

As soon as you turn right the road will fork. BEAR RIGHT AT THE FORK. You will immediately see a red gate that says Lakeview Hts./Private Rd. Go down the hill on the paved road past this gate approximately 6/10 of a mile. Go slow! The road ends abruptly!

At the end of the paved road, TURN RIGHT on to a gravel road. Follow this gravel road about 2/10 of a mile until the road forks again. BEAR LEFT.

You will make a HARD LEFT at this point and you will be going back up the hill approximately 2/10 of a mile more. The cottage is the SECOND one you will encounter on your LEFT. It has a very large gate that says DRIFTWOOD LODGE on top of it.

ALTERNATE SCENIC ROUTE

From Charleston, WV, take US RT. 60 EAST (the Midland Trail) approximately 50 miles to HICO, WV. From HICO, take US RT. 19 NORTH about 10 miles until you see the traffic light as described above.

This is a curvy, mountain road, but it does pass through some breathtaking scenery. If you are in a hurry, you can always see these sights later on in your stay. It’s up to you.
