How to get to the greatest cabins in West Virginia

From Charleston, WV to Carnifex Ferry Cottages

Take I-77 south to the MOSSY/OAK HILL EXIT (exit 60). This should take around 30 minutes.

From MOSSY/OAK HILL EXIT follow STATE RT. 612 to US RT. 19 North (8 miles).

Take US RT. 19 NORTH about 30 minutes until you see a sign that says

        • SUMMERSVILLE DAM
        • GAULEY RIVER N.R.A.
        • CARNIFEX BATTLEFIELD

when you see this sign, make a left on to STATE RT. 129 WEST.

Follow RT. 129 WEST 5.2 miles until you reach CARNIFEX FERRY RD. Turn left.

Follow CARNIFEX FERRY RD 6/10 of a mile and you will see the sign for CARNIFEX FERRY COTTAGES on your left.

Alternate Route From Charleston, WV to Carnifex Ferry Cottages

Take I-79 north to EXIT 57 (Rt. 19 South) marked Summersville/Beckly. This should take around 45 minutes.

Take US RT. 19 South approx. 36 miles. You will pass through Summersville. PLEASE WATCH THE SPEED LIMIT. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge. When you see the sign marked

              • SUMMERSVILLE DAM
              • GAULEY RIVER N.R.A.
              • CARNIFEX BATTLEFIELD

Turn onto Rt. 129 WEST. This is about 6 miles south of Summersville. Follow Rt. 129 west 5.2 miles until you reach Carnifex Ferry Rd. Follow Carnifex Ferry Rd. 6/10 of a mile and you will see the sign for CARNIFEX FERRY COTTAGES on your left.

ALTERNATE SCENIC ROUTE

From Charleston, WV, take US RT. 60 EAST (the Midland Trail) approximately 50 miles to HICO, WV. From HICO, take US RT. 19 NORTH about 10 miles until you see the signs for STATE RT. 129 WEST, as described above.

This is a curvy, mountain road, but it does pass through some breathtaking scenery. If you are in a hurry, you can always see these sights later on in your stay. It’s up to you.
