There is plenty to do in this area of West Virginia for the adventurist . The five pages in this group will detail some of the more exciting, and dangerous, of those. Of course many of these sports can be enjoyed by those of us interested in self-preservation!

The rivers in the area offer whitwater rafting, canoeing, and kayaking in anything from class I water (a leisurely float), to class V (WOW!). The entire family, from little Suzie to Grandma and Grandpa can enjoy a trip down one of our many rivers.

Snow skiing doesn’t have to be an extreme sport, and indeed, it is not for most of us. Check out the many opportunities on our Snow Skiing page.

There are also many bike trails available for nearly any age and experience level. There’s plenty of rough terrain for the “living on the edge” person and many guided tours for the entire family.

Rock climbing is also available for the novice, with several outfitters offering classes for the beginner.

Parachuting and sky diving classes are also available for the beginner as well as the veteran jumper. Visit our Jumping page for more info.

BASE jumping, available legally one day per year, is about the only “adventuristic” (is that a word?) sport not available to the beginning thrill-seeker.

That adventure stuff is tough, and the place to recover, relax, and recharge your batteries for the next day’s adventure is at the Driftwood Lodge or the Carnifex Ferry Cottages. Both are great lodging alternatives to the same old hotel or motel room you’ve seen time after time.
